Multimedia Writing & Technical Communication

Degree and Certificate Options

The B.S. in Multimedia Writing and Technical Communication consists of the following requirements:

  • TWC301 General Principles of Multimedia
  • TWC401 Principles of Technical Communication
  • TWC411 Principles of Visual Communication
  • TWC421 Principles of Writing with Technology
  • TWC431 Principles of Technical Editing
  • TWC490 Capstone
  • An Internship (TWC484) or supervised work experience is strongly recommended.
  • The remaining hours will be elective in the major (TWC) at least six of which need to be in genre or information courses such as TWC443 Proposal Writing or TWC452 Information in the Digital Age.
  • Each student takes courses in a "related area" consisting of 12 hours of study in one other discipline. At least nine of these 12 hours must be upper level. Suggested disciplines might be, but are not limited to, applied psychology, business administration, or computer graphics. Students, with the help of an advisor, may also develop a coherent interdisciplinary related area.
  • Students must meet all other ASU graduation requirements.

Undergraduate Certificate

The Undergraduate Certificate requires 18 hours to include:

    • TWC301 General Principles of Multimedia Writing
    • TWC401 Principles of Technical Communication
    • One (1) of the other core courses:
    • TWC411 Principles of Visual Communication
    • TWC421 Principles of Writing with Technology
    • TWC431 Principles of Technical Editing
    • Three (3) other 400 level TWC courses at least two (2) of which must be genre or information courses, such as TWC443 Proposal Writing or TWC452 Information in the Digital Age.

B.I.S. option

The B.I.S. option requires 18 hours to include:

  • TWC301 General Principles of Multimedia Writing
  • TWC401 Principles of Technical Communication
  • One (1) of the other core courses:
    • TWC411 Principles of Visual Communication
    • TWC421 Principles of Writing with Technology
    • TWC431 Principles of Technical Editing
    • Three (3) other 400 level TWC courses at least two (2) of which must be genre courses, such as TWC443 Proposal Writing or TWC447 Bsiness Reports.
    • In addition, students must take the B.I.S. Capstone course

B.A.S. option

The B.A.S. option requires 15 core hours to include:

  • TWC301 General Principles of Multimedia Writing
  • TWC347 Written Communication for Managers
  • TWC401 Principles of Technical Communication
  • TWC421 Principles of Writing for Technology
  • APM301 Introductory Statistics

and 20 hours in the major:

  • TWC411 Principles of Visual Communication
  • TWC431 Principles of Technical Editing
  • TWC44X genre series course, such as TWC443 Proposal Writing
  • TWC45X information series course, such as TWC452 Information in the Digital Age
  • TWC3/4XX elective
  • TWC499 directed instruction (2 credits)
  • TWC490 Capstone

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate requires 18 hours to include:

  • TWC501 Principles of Technical Communication
  • Two (2) of the other core courses:
    • TWC511 Principles of Visual Communication
    • TWC521 Principles of Writing with Technology
    • TWC531 Principles of Technical Editing
  • Three (3) other 500 level TWC courses at least two (2) of which must be genre or information courses, such as TWC543 Proposal Writing or TWC552 Information in the Digital Age.
